Founded in 2011, Collectif Scale is a French collective of creatives from diverse artistic and professional backgrounds. Based in Montereau, the group uses technologies such as projection mapping, robotics, and LED lighting to create immersive new media installations.
Their work is inspired by physical phenomena found in nature—like atoms or deep space—as well as by contemporary art, mainstream and pop culture. Rather than identifying as individual artists, the members work collectively under one name, using artistic tools to explore connections between music and visuals, light and architecture, nature and the future, and the relationship between humans and machines.
Over the years, Scale has developed a unique visual language that is sensory, narrative, and playful. Innovation is central to their practice, along with a strong commitment to making their work accessible to a broad audience.
Their work titled FLUX has enjoyed worldwide acclaim over the past four years, having been featured both on music stages and at art events. Since its debut, the piece’s mutating, modular, and innovative form has met with outstanding success. The multiplication of light strips and the precision of motor control enable the collective to sculpt an organic, lifelike object through subtle changes in phase, speed, and amplitude.
The formal multiplication of the luminous lines associated with a precise motor control lets Scale plays with subtle variations of phases, speeds and amplitudes to sculpt an organic object. Adaptable to its environment, Flux redesigns its surroundings and offers an unique, playful and frenetic show in which the choreography intimately dialogues with the music - with the impression of a living organism.
