Barta Imola & Holics Hanna Médea (HU) - SYNTHESIS

Imola Barta and Hanna Médea Holics are Media Design students at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. They have collaborated on several university projects, and their artistic approach is characterised by openness and experimentation. Their work explores the intersections of space, material, and technology, examining through a range of media how we shape – and perceive – our environment. SYNTHESIS is a site-specific light installation that responds to the industrial architecture of the former Inota power plant and the gradual return of nature. The artists connect the building’s existing columns with surfaces constructed from translucent plastic sheeting and a square-grid structural system, incorporating vegetation found on the grounds of the power plant. The mosaic-like elements, with varying degrees of translucency, create a labyrinthine space, while automated, pulsating lights bring the structure to life and invite visitors further inside. The installation raises questions about control over nature. It reflects on how humans transform their environment and how such transformations relate to gestures of preservation and possession.
