Brab_ra x Szabolcs Ollári (HU) - CARBO_

Brab_ra, also known as Barbara Szilágyi, is a graphic design student at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs. Her practice includes VJing and the creation of audiovisual installations. Szabolcs Ollári graduated from the Electronic Music Media programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs in 2014. His interests focus on experimental music, electronic sound and audiovisual forms; he also runs a techno project under the name Untitled99. In their collaborative works, they explore the relationship between sound, moving image and rhythmic visual structures. CARBO_ is the second piece in Brab_ra and Szabolcs Ollári’s audiovisual series. The work takes the operation of the INOTA Power Plant and the human-controlled process of energy transformation as its starting point. The piece follows the phases of the thermal power plant’s operation: from the image of the Earth, the motif of extracted coal gradually emerges, followed by the processes of combustion, heating and transformation into steam. The steam eventually condenses back into water, and the composition returns to the image of the Earth, evoking the cycle of matter and energy. Rather than representing industrial processes in a documentary way, CARBO_ translates the motifs of transformation, vibration and cyclicality into an abstract audiovisual form.
