Kováts Janka (HU) – Held in Tension

Janka Kováts is a visual artist working across sculpture, textiles, and printmaking. Her work explores the relationship between material, form, and structural systems, developing objects and installations through rule-based processes and spatial thinking. Combining digital design with manual fabrication, she investigates how controlled structures and material behaviour together generate form. ‘Held in Tension’ is a rope sculpture installation whose forms are created exclusively through knotting techniques. The work is shaped by the tension, weight, and balance inherent in the rope, with the relationships between the knots determining the resulting forms. Suspended in space, the elements exist simultaneously as sculptural objects and structural line drawings.
