Encor Studio (CH) – Warped

Encor Studio was founded in 2016 by Swiss audiovisual artists Mirko Eremita, David Houncheringer, Manuel Oberholzer and Valerio Spoletini. Their work combines technology with simple, often self-developed tools and lo-fi materials. Within their installations, light and sound function not merely as visual or accompanying elements, but as physical materials capable of transforming the perception of space. Encor Studio experiments with kinetic sculptures, architectural installations, mirrors, creative coding, data, water and sound waves. Their projects frequently alter the audience’s spatial and visual perception. In their recent work, the studio has adopted an increasingly reductionist approach, using fewer elements while allowing the surrounding architecture, existing light conditions and energy-efficient solutions to play a greater role. WARPED is an optical installation composed of layered lenticular films that generate continuously shifting moiré patterns as the viewer moves. A warm white neon line appears as a stable graphic element between the vibrating surfaces, highlighting the optical distortions by day and becoming the work’s own light source at night. The “warp” of the title refers both to the deformation of the patterns and to the altered perception of the surrounding space. Installed in sequence along the upper-level corridor of the Turbine Hall, the works continuously reshape the space through the movement of the viewer.
