Sam Slater (UK/DE)
Opening the main program of INOTA Festival on August 27, double Grammy-winning British sound designer, composer, and producer Sam Slater brings his physical, immersive soundscapes to the power plant. Alongside his longtime collaborator and wife, Hildur Guðnadóttir, he was instrumental in crafting the raw, haunting sonic environments for HBO’s Chernobyl, Joker, and the video game Battlefield 2042.In his solo output, Slater pushes the boundaries of spatial acoustics, industrial textures, and sound design. His latest album, Lunng, exemplifies this extreme spectrum—blending the raw intensity of black metal with British brass traditions, distorted choruses, and processed acoustic instrumentation. For this landmark opening show at INOTA, the performance doubles as an exclusive audiovisual experience, featuring live light design by Hildur Guðnadóttir herself to frame Slater’s heavy, atmospheric soundscapes against the brutalist backdrop of the power plant.
