Actress (aka Darren J Cunningham) is a giant of electronic composition, a far-seeing philosopher-complicator. Since his breakthrough with Splazsh in 2010, he has reshaped the landscape with a mystic, genre-defying language. A former footballer turned sound alchemist, his career has included founding the influential Werk Discs, working with the London Contemporary Orchestra, and collaborating with artists like Sampha, Eddie Peake, and even AI trained on his own output as far back as 2018.

His latest album, 2024’s Statik, out on avant-garde label Smalltown Supersound, signals a serene kosmische turn - dreamlike, fractal, and deeply meditative. Paired with visuals by Norwegian photographer Ola Rindal, it reflects Actress’ ongoing fascination with infinite loops, thought spirals, and the boundaries between human and machine.
