Mary Lattimore is a Los Angeles-based harpist celebrated for her ambient solo work and rich collaborative history with indie rock and experimental artists. She typically augments her graceful harp improvisations with electronic effects, emphasizing the instrument's ethereal qualities while conjuring up fascinating new sonic vistas - promising memorable synergies in the Turbine Hall.
Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Lattimore rose through the Philadelphia underground scene in the 2000s, contributing to psych-folk projects and experimental scores. Her solo debut, The Withdrawing Room (2013), followed early cassette releases and collaborations with artists such as Jeff Zeigler. In the years that followed, she performed and recorded with Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, and members of bands like Slowdive, delivering genre-defying releases through labels like Ghostly International and Thrill Jockey.
Lattimore’s body of work includes soundtracks, remixes, and albums that stretch the boundaries of harp music, incorporating synths, Theremin, guitar, and found sounds. Her 2018 album Hundreds of Days marked a creative peak, followed by Silver Ladders (2020), recorded with Neil Halstead. She continued evolving through collaborative projects with Mac McCaughan, Paul Sukeena, and Lol Tolhurst (The Cure), culminating in her 2023 release Goodbye, Hotel Arkada. Known for her emotive instrumental storytelling, Lattimore’s music floats between the intimate and the expansive - anchored by her harp, yet always reaching beyond it.
